Thank you for sharing this wonderful piece of regalia! I used to work very close to Hampton Court Palace and we would take groups of children there every summer. I was always captivated by the crown: though 'only' a replica, it seemed far too precious and nationally-significant to be displayed as casually as it was. I love the history of objects, and so it is interesting to hear about the way Charles III has affiliated himself with this distant relative. I wonder, too, what he is trying to communicate about his kingship...!

Oh I would absolutely LOVE to live that close to HCP. What's really sad is when I finally made my pilgrimage to the palace 4 years ago I didn't even know there was a replica there!! I would have absolutely went to see it in all of its glory. Harry Collins and his team used REAL precious gems to replicate it! how do they not advertise it more to tourists?! you bet I will be going back next time I get a chance to "cross the pond"!

Thanks for being here Holly!

I love love love HCP. It was such a joy to be able to walk there with our classes. It just brings such a tangible connection with the past: those were the very corridors and gardens that our historical heroes walked! Where all that drama happened! And we can go there. I honestly find it incredible.

Same! and I secretly hope Charles III is a Tudorfantic like us. I am going on the trip of my dreams in September to attend the Gloucester History fest and meet my heroes. I won't make it to HCP again but I am going to visit the British Library and try to become a member and maybe get into an archive or two..any recommendations ?

Ooh I hadn’t heard of the history festival! That looks great. I might try to head down for some of that - thanks for sharing.

I’m a big-time fan of the British Museum, but that might just be because of all the fantastic Anglo-Saxon and Viking material there (my specialism). I’m not too sure on Tudor places… maybe Simon Haisell on here might know if you DM him - he runs a Wolf Hall slow read. I don’t know when you’re heading over, but there’s a Tudor exhibit on at the National Portrait Gallery until 8th Sept that I’m going to try to get to.
